The Irish contender is naturally larger at welterweight and has the height, reach and movement necessary to make Makhachev work for every takedown.

That is the central question of this fight:

Can Makhachev consistently get Garry to the mat?

If the answer is yes, Makhachev should control the fight.

Makhachev's combination of chain wrestling, positional control and submission threats makes him one of the most difficult fighters in the sport to keep off an opponent's legs. His ability to transition from one takedown attempt to another is particularly important against a long fighter such as Garry.

Garry's best weapon is distance.

He needs to keep Makhachev at the end of his strikes, force him to cross a dangerous range and make the champion pay whenever he enters.

Makhachev decision +110: If that price is still available, it becomes considerably more attractive than laying more than -300 on the straight moneyline.

Over 3.5 rounds: Also attractive if the market gives us a favorable price.

Makhachev by submission: Dangerous but certainly live if Garry spends extended periods defending from his back.

Underdog angle

Garry is not a throwaway underdog.

His size, striking and ability to fight at range give him a legitimate path to victory.

If you want to take the dog, I would much rather take Garry by decision or knockout than simply play the moneyline at +250.

Mackenzie Dern (-225) vs. Gillian Robertson (+185)

This could be one of the most interesting grappling matchups of the entire UFC year.

Both women are dangerous on the ground, and Robertson enters on a five-fight winning streak. She also owns one of the most impressive submission resumes in women's UFC history.

Dern, however, has developed into a considerably more complete fighter.

Her striking has improved, and that matters because neither woman wants to spend five rounds simply diving into the other's strongest grappling positions.

Robertson's ideal fight involves pressure, takedowns and scrambling.

Dern's ideal fight involves forcing Robertson into defensive grappling exchanges where Dern can use her superior submission mechanics.

This fight could ultimately become a chess match.

The market is giving Dern the respect of a champion, but Robertson is dangerous enough that I would be reluctant to use Dern as a heavy parlay anchor.

I expect plenty of grappling, but I don't necessarily expect a quick submission.

Five-round championship experience could become important, and Dern's increasingly well-rounded game gives her more ways to win.

Dern decision +150: One of the better method props available on the main card if that number remains close to market.

Over 2.5 rounds: Strong consideration.

130-Pound Catchweight

This fight is an excellent example of why bettors need to pay attention to late UFC news.

Charles Johnson was originally scheduled to fight Jose Ochoa, but Ochoa withdrew shortly before the event. Eduardo Henrique stepped in on short notice and the fight was moved to a 130-pound catchweight. Henrique is making his UFC debut.

That completely changes the handicap.

Johnson has significantly more UFC experience, while Henrique is entering under unusual circumstances.

The late replacement factor is particularly important in MMA because short-notice opponents have less time to prepare specifically for their opponent's tendencies.

Henrique is dangerous, however, and this is not a fight where I would recommend blindly laying a huge favorite price.

This is the biggest favorite-versus-underdog matchup on the main card.

Abdul-Malik has the athleticism, speed and physical tools to cause Stoltzfus problems.

Stoltzfus' best chance is to turn the fight into a grappling battle.

If he can force Abdul-Malik to work from bad positions, slow down his opponent and drag the fight into the championship rounds, the underdog becomes much more interesting.

But if Abdul-Malik can dictate the range and keep Stoltzfus from establishing his grappling rhythm, this could become a one-sided fight.

The market is expecting Abdul-Malik to dominate, and there are ways to bet this fight without paying the enormous moneyline price.

But at 40 years old, Father Time is now part of the handicap.

Barboza has lost three consecutive fights, while Ribovics is considerably younger and brings a high-output striking game into the matchup.

Ribovics should have the advantage in pace.

Barboza's advantage is experience and devastating one-shot finishing ability.

That makes the moneyline less appealing than some of the fight-specific markets.

Ribovics should attempt to pressure Barboza without becoming reckless.

Barboza doesn't need to dominate a fight to win it.

UFC 330 is an interesting card for bettors because the two championship fights present very different situations.

The strongest value may actually come from the fights underneath the title bouts.
